The body is cognitive.
In live performance, I prohibit modern recording technologies; the body is the sole recording device. This orients an audience’s attention to the relationship between the performing body and their own, and to their physical and social entanglement in the performance. One must rely upon one’s own body and its innate capacity to remember and create meaning. Although the material conditions of the drawing performances are often ephemeral, neither the drawing nor the performance disappears in the wake of the event, but are dispersed through and carried by multiple bodies.
