INCHWORM:
A PARTICIPATORY PERFORMANCE
at the Climate Theater in San Francisco, as part of the POW! POW! Action Art Festival on October 15, 2009
In this piece, performer space and audience space merge.
Instructions to myself: Using the inchworm exercise, push pieces of chalk along the floor until the chalk is gone.
Instructions to audience: Use your own handheld video recording devices (digital cameras, cell phone video, etc) to move through the space and explore a variety of camera angles as you observe and document the drawing activity.
In doing so, spectators become participants as they take an active role in their own perceptual experiences, as well as in the making of a document that reflects the activity of perception itself.
The resulting audio-visual document combines the videography of seventeen participants.
