In the first incarnation of the Drawing Gym in Fargo, North Dakota, I taught eighty-eight individuals to make drawings while pushing their bodies through various exercise stations. In 2011, I studied to become a certified personal trainer, and through collaboration with the Bayview Hunter’s Point Y, went to work with volunteers in the community. In Drawing Gym 2: This Time It’s Personal, I pushed eleven participants to reconnect with the creative potential of their physical bodies by using the activity of drawing to record their physical changes over time.

Please join me on Friday, May 4th, to celebrate the accomplishments of our participants, to speak with them about their experiences, and to see the over 70 drawings and 13 videos that document this project.

Drawing Gym 2: This Time It’s Personal is supported by a San Francisco Artist Commission Individual Artist Grant, as well as an Investing in Artists grant from the Center for Cultural Innovation.
