A REAL CONVERSATION IN TWO PARTS, PART II

Glass wall, dry erase markers, willing participants

2017

Part II of two participatory installations created during Namkung’s artist residency at the Palo Alto Arts Center for the exhibition PLAY! curated by Selene Foster. Part II involved two participants writing a simultaneous message from opposite sides of a glass wall, one mirroring the writing movements of the other. More info below.

PART II

Instructions:

  1. Breathe and come into presence with your body and with your partner.

  2. Partners face one another directly on opposite sides of the glass.

  3. The leader speaks by using the black marker to send a message to his or her partner. Write something to your partner that you want to tell them, or have always wanted to tell them. The follower listens by mirroring the emerging line. For example, if the speaker uses their right hand, the listener mirrors with their left. The speaker should move at a pace that allows the follower to mirror them.

  4. Take turns.
